Citi Health can help you to protect your staff against workplace illness this winter
The hidden cost of workplace sickness has increased to more than £100bn a year in Britain, warns a report from the Institute for Public Policy Research.
The study found that the cost of staff sickness across the UK grew by £30bn a year to £103bn in 2023, from £73bn in 2018, with the most critical losses of £25bn due to lower productivity, or employees not fully functioning in the workplace because of an illness, injury or other health condition.
Senior research fellow at the IPPR, Dr Jamie O’Halloran, commented: “Too often UK workers are being pressured to work through sickness when that’s not appropriate – harming their wellbeing and reducing productivity. This can be because of a bad workplace culture, poor management, financial insecurity or just weak understanding of long-term conditions among UK employers.”
Paul Devoy, CEO of Investors in People, added: “All the evidence shows there is a clear link between employers having a positive culture of wellbeing in their organisation with productivity and sustainable organisational performance. Focusing on systematically leading, supporting and improving a culture of wellbeing has long term benefits for all employers who make that commitment to their staff.”
Every year, seasonal flu hits UK businesses particularly hard: according to a paper published last September on PubMed Central, seasonal influenza is associated with a £644m loss to the UK's economy, which is equivalent to approximately £272 per infected worker.
At Citi Health the focus is always on preventing workplace illness before it happens, from Occupational Health to Covid-19 vaccinations and the seasonal flu vaccine, which is essential to keeping your operations running smoothly throughout the winter. Gayle Anderson from Citi Health commented: “Arranging a flu clinic for your employees is a vital part of preparing your organisation for the winter months. This IPPR report illustrates perfectly just how crippling it can be to organisations for staff to be coming in to work unwell, but we can help to protect your employees to against flu, and Covid-19, this winter.”
“Our clients come to us because we provide an in-house flu clinic at your place of work which runs on a day, or days, of your choice. Your employees can sign up for an appointment online and we make sure everybody who wants to be vaccinated gets their flu jab well in time to protect them for the coming winter season.”
